Tall, spindly abhumans who prowl the outer-perimeter of various weak-points, cross-over zones and portal thresholds, the Karnaffi are notorious ambushers and opportunists. Lacking true eyes, but rather having 3d4 eye-spots speckled seemingly at random across the bulbous mass that serves as their face/head, the Karnaffi have an innate ability to See Invisible, See Magic, Discern Weakpoints, and Detect Portals visually.

More plant than mammal, the Karnaffi have the capacity to bask in a wide spectrum of radiation that extends well beyond the infrared or ultraviolet, and to convert these emanations into energy that they can (and most assuredly do) use to power their peculiar metabolisms. They also only take half-damage for fire-based or light-based attacks and are immune to all but the most extreme radiation effects.

Karnaffi disdain metal and will rarely keep any they find, even if it is magic. At most they'll trade any such things that they find for items manufactured from wood, bamboo, chitin or other materials, preferring once-living things to minerals or the like. Some Karnaffi carry specially-treated Mycelidon pod-blades that they have enchanted to at least +1 attack bonus.

Even the smallest budling Karnaffi can dowse for the nearest vortex, portal or dimensional juncture. All Karnaffi can shift between the next 1d6 adjacent planes at will, taking 1d4 turns to make the transition for every 100 pounds over their own weight that they are attempting to shift. They cannot shift anything made of metal.

The Karnaffi brew potent liquors from their own sap and scabby/resinous hair-encrustations that have the ability to grant intercosmic visions, planar awareness, and cross-planar telepathy which they never sell, but will sometimes gift to those who perform special favors or do great service to them and their root-family.
