Ain 4: Trarkku Rootworld

Thanks to the Drune there is now a new minor race running around in Humanspace Empires; the Trarkku. These previously nameless and unknown beings are from Ain 4, in the Hyades. Below are some preliminary maps of Ain 4.

Ain 4 / Hyades / North Polar View

Ain 4 / Hyades / South Polar View

Ain 4 / Hyades / Equatorial View

These are rough drafts, not the final version(s). The South Polar Region is heavily illuminated, possibly from massive solar mirror assemblies or perhaps because Ain 4 rolls around its primary star-sun with that pole aimed at the sun. More details will be forthcoming at the Ain 4 blog.

  1. Incredible work!

I don't know much about Ain 4. Its sun, Ain or Oculus Borealis is a yellow giant. The ancient Humanspace colony was destroyed long ago and the world was lost and forgotten.

There is probably a colony of the enigmatic and psychically powerful Vrilú on the world. These eyeless subterranean aliens are believed extinct but I've heard other stories.

Considering the similarities between the Trárkku and the Trarch and the Vrilú and the Shantha looking to Jorune for some clues about this mysterious world might be worthwhile.

  2. It's looking pretty good for a rough draft, weird but naturalistic, referencing the familiar enough to anchor the wackier touches. Another cool project to keep an eye on.

  3. @Drune: Thanks for the nice words. We'll be messing around with the maps a bit to better refine them, add in the Equator and probably scatter some more pronounced craters into the mix. Maybe some sprawling cyclopean ruins visible from space? Interesting note there about the war that ravaged Ain 4 previously--Ain 4 is a post apocalyptic sub-setting! Recursive, but eminently workable. Mutagenic weapons were used, no doubt. Where can we learn more about the Vrilu or Trarch? Those names haven't cropped-up very often, at least in our experience. (Probably should go look at the Blue Room Archive, huh?)

@Porky: Thanks! We'll revise the map and re-post it again later on after we've had a chance to better explore Ain 4 and the weird stuff hidden away within the craters and rubble of this smoldering, blasted world everyone else left behind to die.

  4. Space is so vast there will is bound to be great recursiveness.

I've been slipping in a few elements from the Sky Realms of Jorune (many call it a Tekumel rip off so it seems like fair game to me).

Details of the Shantha (inspiration for the Vrilu) and Tharch (inspiration for the Tharkku) and the other Jorune races are at:

I'm not trying to make Ain 4 Jorune or anything but I take perverse pleasure in subtle thefts and tributes. I have a few Jorune books if you have any questions.
